Catalysis and Nanotechnology Research Division

Due to the demand from Iran`s petroleum industries, research activities on catalysis was started at RIPI in 1969 and a section was then established, named catalyst research section. It was then in 1981 that the section was restructured due to the vast research activities into catalysis research center (CRC). The center has been a well-known research center in the country in catalysis activities, and been active in catalyst development, characterization, consulting and troubleshooting of industrial catalytic processes.

The future outlook and extensive application of nanotechnology in oil industry has made RIPI to develop a nanotechnology research center in 2002, and in 2011 the catalysis research center and nanotechnology research center joint together to form a single research division, which is now named Catalysis and Nanotechnology research division.

Research activities in order to meet the needs of Iran's oil industry are now undertaken in catalysis and nanotechnology research division in four groups, i.e., catalyst preparation, characterization and evaluation of catalysts, catalytic reaction engineering, and development of carbon nanotechnology.
