Isobutane to Isobutylene Catalyst |
|
|
Goals:
Peparation of i-C4 to i-C42- catalyst
Introduction:
The product relates to the dehydrogenation
of isobutene to isobutylene, which is subsequently used in MTBE production via
scheme 1.

Scheme 1
The catalyst will be selected from a group,
which has been found to provide a high selectivity to isobutylene, with minimum
structural isomerization to the normal butenes.
Approach:
The work was performed as a research project for NPC in
RIPI.
Accomplishments:
Advantages:
The catalyst comprises platinum plus at
least one metal of the group IVa from periodic table on a non-acidic
support, such as alumina. This catalyst successfully satisfies three
requirements, namely high activity, high selectivity and good stability.
Stability is a measure of the rate of change with time on stream of activity and
selectivity- the smaller rate implying the more stable catalysts (see Fig.1)
