This project was commissioned to carry out the basic and detail design of a 1500 bpd plant at Kharg Petrochemical Complex to produce gasoline from gas condensates. The gasoline refinement process. Including the distillation and Caustic washing unit. Due to differing percentage and rate of the feed compositions, a variety of samples were taken from the site and analyzed. The results of the analyses revealed that for reasons of their compositions, two of the samples broadly represented all the variety of feeds produced at this Complex. The design of the process components was, therefore, based on those two samples and was designed in such a wayso as to have the necessary degree of flexibility to refine a wide range of feeds.

 Feed characteristics

  •    A wide variety of hydrocarbons in the C2-C22 range

  •    The impurity of the sulfur compounds such as H2S (380 ppm) and mercaptans (960 ppm).

  •    The feeds composition and rate variable because of some variety of leasons.

Capacity: 1500 barrels per day

Product Characteristics

  •    Recovery of 95% of the hydrocarbons in the C5—C10 range. (compatible with RIPI undertakings with regards to product characteristics).

  •    The level 4ppm (compatible with RIPI undertakings with regards to product characteristics).

  •    Sybolt colour test: +28 (compatible with RIPI undertakings with regards to product characteristics)

Commissioning:

This unit was commissioned successfully by the Kharg petrochemical Complex. Late December 2005. Experts from the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) were in attendance at the commissioning ceremony and commissioning ceremony and commissioning certificate has been issued. All the products derived from the process are compatible with RIPI undertakings with regards to product characteristics.

Economic Achievement:

The feed to the recovered gasoline was formerly of low value due to the presence of sulfur compounds impurities and some heavy hydrocarbon fractions and it used to be burnt in the Burnt Pit. Since the commissioning of this unit, the product derived from this feed sells at a premium of five US Dollars over petroleum crude. In view of the nominal capacity (1500BBLID) and supposing 60 us Dollars per barrel for crude oil, an annual export earning of about 35 million us Dollars is gaining.
