The technique used in sulfur recovery units is known as the Claus process. High performance Claus catalysts are required for operating SRU at very high efficiency

ccording to their application Claus catalysts can be classified into three main groups: High purity alumina based catalysts, promoted alumina catalysts and titanium dioxide catalyst


Mega Project:

igh purity alumina based catalysts; are suitable for each catalytic stage of the Claus plant to convert hydrogen sulfide to elemental sulfur according to the Claus reaction. Titanium dioxide catalysts are primarily employed for high hydrolysis rates of carbonyl sulfide ad carbon disulfide, as well as for the high conversion of all sulfur species to elemental sulfur.

The production  know-how package of all three catalyst is available at RIPI


Prevention against outflow of currency:

The Clause process is almost used in all gas and some petroleum refineries. Their catalysts use are high and therefore the production of this catalyst will stop the currency leave.



The production technology package is available for commercialization


Economic Justificationn

Comfar software was used for business feasibility study. Internal rate of return (IRR) of alumina and titania catalysts were calculated 49/13% and 93/42%, respectively. This make the production highly justifiable


Contractor approval:

The pilot performance evaluation are comparable with the commercial catalyst
