TEHRAN (RIPI) -- The Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) unveiled a series of locally made drilling additives at the 23rd Iran Oil and Gas Show which ran in the capital city of Tehran in May.

Addressing a ceremony to unveil the items, Dr. Towfiqi, RIPI director, said: "In this project, the Research Institute of Oil Industry, in cooperation with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC)'s Research and Technology Company, developed the chemicals and additives and added them to the conventional drilling muds which have unique characteristics. The additives can prevent a great deal of waste while increasing the drilling speed."

Furthermore, Ebrahim Taleghani, director of the NIOC research and technology directorate, said using the items would be beneficial in various areas, adding: "Economic benefits, localization and transfer of knowledge for knowledge-based companies, as well as prevention of waste, speeding up drilling operations and being environmentally friendly, are cited as the advantages of using these new additives."

Mohammad Reza Horr, technical undersecretary of exploration management at NIOC, said RIPI had invented the additives, adding this items would excel all other models ever introduced in the industry for controlling waste in drilling operations.
