TEHRAN (RIPI) -- Researchers at Tarbiat Modarres University, supported by the Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), have developed a combination of diesel fuel and carbon dots which can be used in diesel engines to reduce their fuel consumption and pollution.

One of the members of the research team that developed the combination, Ehsan Ettefaghi, PhD from Tarbiat Modarres University, said application of metal nanoparticles and metal oxides in the combination of diesel fuels is a way to reduce fuel consumption and problems with their use in engines.

Metal nanoparticles and metal oxides are toxic for living organisms and the use of bio-degradable carbon nanoparticles can reduce these problems to some extent, he said.

"In internal combustion engines, factors such as the lack of proper combination of fuel and air, lack of sufficient oxygen and the presence of impurities in the fuel can result in incomplete combustion, leading to problems such as increased fuel consumption and pollutants," Dr. Ettefaghi added.
