TEHRAN (RIPI) -- The director of Research and Technology at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said the company has successfully devised the formula for production of drilling fluid additives with the help of the Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI).
The weak performance of additives, their high utilization rate to compensate for their shortcomings, and the their shortage caused by the crippling sanctions, are only part of the reasons that have made defining a national pursuit for indigenizing their formulation mandatory for NIOC. To this effect, the Research and Technology Department of the company has devised a national plan to indigenize key items and fluids widely used in the industry.
In this regard, Mr. Ebrahim Taleghani, director of research and technology at NIOC, says: "Implementation of the project has prevented currency flight leading to creation of jobs in the country; environmental issues and reservoir management are among other issues that made us put this research plan on our agenda."
He said the project was carried out jointly by the Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), which serves as the research arm of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum.
"RIPI enjoys numerous research departments and faculties in upstream research and is regarded a reference for cement and drilling fluid research in the country," he said.
He said characteristics are unique for each well and therefore a certain formula must be used for the drilling fluids of each one which makes this field very special.
